Navigating vast uncharted oceans, crossing endless grass prairies, negotiating treacherous mountain passes…these experiences can be summed up in one vivid word: voyage. This is the theme the community chose for Longmont’s newest neighborhood park. Through a public charrette process, BHA Design employed the great ideas generated by residents to create a unique neighborhood park.

The design includes a colorful compass star spray garden, playful constellations, large ship berms, intertwined mazes of undulating walks, and a large globe plaza illustrating some of the great historical voyages. Combining these rich thematic elements with a strong program including a skate park, a basketball court, playgrounds, a dog park, a BMX track, picnic shelters, a sand volleyball court and plenty of green open space, Stephen Day Park is sure to be a favorite among children and adults.
