BHA design has collaborated with the Whiting-Turner Contracting Inc. / ALM2S KWK design-build team to provide landscape architecture design services for the new Williams Village East Residence Hall at University of Colorado Boulder. This project replaces a parking lot and outdated tennis courts with a 700-bed residence hall immediately to the east of Williams Village North residence hall. The Williams Village East residential hall is anticipated to open August 2019.
Sustainability – Williams Village East is designed to meet LEED Gold standards or better.
Key features of the site design include seamless integration into the existing Williams Village community with sinuous trails and transit connection. The building’s north side is flanked on the east and west by masonry garden walls and column entry features leading into the “village green”. The main north entry is set within a lush shade garden. The east side of the building faces the bear canyon creek and an existing irrigation storage pond and features an open green space for passive recreation. The south side of the building includes the primary pedestrian entry, a generous outdoor patio space and access to the active recreation fields with available hammock / slack-line posts. The west side of the building accommodates pedestrian connectivity between the bus stop and open green and cross access between Williams Village North and Williams Village East.
